About Us

Kinston Medical Specialists, PA came into existence in 1971 when Hubert G. Pierce, MD, an Internal Medicine physician, started the new corporation in Kinston. In 1977, Dr. Pierce recruited Michael B. King, MD, a Cardiologist, to enter into Kinston Medical Specialists and the two physicians provided outpatient and inpatient services together for the next several years. Their first address was 313 Airport Road, Kinston, North Carolina.

In 1985, Kinston Medical Specialists added their first Gastroenterologist, Dr. Robert Dickson and in 1986 Dr. Mark Dumas, Internal Medicine, came to Kinston to provide more primary care services. Dr. Dickson performed Endoscopy procedures at 313 Airport Road in the outpatient setting. In 1988 \, Dr. Peter Watson, Hematology/Oncology joined the group and in 1989 Dr. Robert Gallagher, Pulmonology, joined the group. There were many medical services being provided to the community and the group was growing at a pace that required them to look for a bigger facility in Kinston. At the same time, the group expanded their coverage to include a clinic in Trenton, North Carolina and a clinic in Snow Hill, North Carolina.

In 1991, the group moved into bigger space at 701 Doctors Drive, Suite N Kinston, North Carolina. All of these services and more are being provided to the expanded customer area that now includes Lenoir, Greene, Wayne, Jones, Onslow, Pitt, and Duplin counties.

The group added satellite clinics in Pink Hill, LaGrange, and Richlands in the 1990s. These three satellite clinics along with the clinic in Snow Hill are all directed by Family Practice physicians and their mid-level providers. The Trenton clinic was sold in 2009.

The Hematology/Oncology Division started a Cancer Outreach clinic in Kenansville, North Carolina in 2005.

The group now consists of 6 Internal Medicine Physicians, 2 Cardiology physicians, 2 Hematology/ Oncology physicians, 4 Family Practice physicians, and 6 mid-level providers. A new Gastroenterologist started on July 1, 2011.
